Also don’t be afraid to throw down seed for a Fall Overseed. Even if you plan to nuke everything next year, could use a cheap seed, it’d look better than weeds and mud until you’re ready to do what ya want at whatever point. I’ve come to realize that an electric corded dethatcher/scarifier works wonders for seeding. The scarifying blade in it roughs up the soil enough and leaves great grooves for seed-to-soil contact. Almost like slit seeding. Can get the SunJoe one everybody gets but I needed one fast a few years ago and got this one below. It’s literally identical to the SunJoe (I imagine there’s one company in China that makes them and they get rebranded) and was a lot cheaper. Need a heavy duty long extension cord for it but it works amazing, $100 and used it like 6 times without issue. Cover the seed with peat moss in a rolling peat moss spreader rented from Home Depot and keep it moist, you’ll be solid.https://www.amazon.com/SENIX-Dethatcher-Scarifier-Collection-SCE13-M/dp/B0CW8VBF7J/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?crid=165IDQKW6GJAV&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.p6g_eKmqzqaDD8SSXQmrbfqzs9iNAHBvj0LTkBAT-CcwU6NchSAw3YJXyYjguBfFRUMbjXZNRiqk5jyQybX3omPRqy5TrYaFS_EmCZoLMJ7UTlsxB2ADbNSC5KULUaKQ2PBcyli8STyfmRSg8AqoPJ4GzuqfuL_Je1mRKp-dE1g_KxheNzqV_ykpGrnn9SmOy8mpSZFc9nVFvykipPJr8w.2kUqEi1iuHXNuW_subr7f353TG4NNNDQ0za3kwt50cE&dib_tag=se&keywords=dethatcher%2Band%2Bscarifier%2Bsenix&qid=1781015134&sprefix=dethatcher%2Band%2Bscarifier%2Bsenix%2Caps%2C217&sr=8-1&th=1&psc=1 off of Amazon. I was about to come in here and post an a similar picture of my lawn. I also bought one of the residential dethatchers on amazon the other day for $80 and its going to be here tomorrow. I am sure its no where near as good as some of the name brands out there but I am going to give it a shot. I saw some people in the reviews saying it looks like a sun joe knock off. I am new to "advanced" lawn care. Meaning more than just mowing and the occasional weed eating. So I am no where near as knowledgable as anyone in here. But I have seen several videos on YT that show something similar to what you and I are both dealing with. They all recommended dethatching, aerating, seeding, fertilizing, then a top dressing. I am going to rent a pete moss spreader for the top dressing. The only thing I cant get a good handle on is when do I need to add the tenacity weedspray. If anyone could help me out I would greatly appreciate it.
