Even if you can find the official DVD set (not easy at all!), it's not cheap. For season 2 on DVD with English subtitles that you can turn on or off there's only the various unofficial DVDs on Ebay and the like. These contain all of the episodes from both seasons but, as I vaguely recall from when i last did some research, some don't have the two OVAs or the final anime movie. Some also label the series as three seasons (they label season 2 as two seasons), but all in the same set. As the episodes are crammed onto just a few discs there will presumably be some drop in quality. Another option is the very expensive official Japanese Blu-ray sets, but as they don't have English subtitles you would need to find some and potentially mess around with timings to get them to work ....... However, season 1 is at least officially available on DVD: https://www.amazon.com/Mushishi-Box-S-V/dp/B005HVWWB2 it's also an excellent price for 26 episodes of brilliance. It frustrates the hell out of me that the licence holder of season 2 (the Sony-owned Aniplex, who do NOT own the rights to season 1 thankfully!) just sit on the 20 episodes (plus two OVAs and the movie) of this wonderful series. As it's an HD production it should be released on Blu-ray in the west with assorted subtitles, including English. I suppose we should be grateful to Aniplex for funding season 2 in the first place, but as I understand it they probably only saw it as a 'prestige' title to make themselves look good, kind of like Oscar-bait. And now they just sit on it, seemingly unwilling to do anything with it.
