I second the Signal Sticks but I'd get the BNC Signal Stick With the Signal Strand BNC adapter. You get the option to easily add and remove as needed a counterpoise wire (which they have available.) and a fast way to switch to other antennas. Then get a dual band mag mount mobile antenna for your car and you now have a radio for your car that you can quickly switch to and from. I did have to adapt my antenna to BNC but you can get either just an adapter or one with a short bit of flexible coax to protect your radio similar to the linked one. (Though if the end on the antenna cable doesn't match what's on your antenna you'll have to get a different adapter to connect your radio. If the connector looks like the one on your antenna, these would be the correct adapters.) Signal Stuff actually has a mag mount BNC adapter for your car but if you see how much bug guts get splattered on a mobile antenna then you'd want to just get one that you are not taking off your car to attach to your HT. Prepare for a small novel on the big option: If you really want to go crazy, get yourself a roll up j pole and now you can use your radio as a portable base station. There are many great options out there. I have an Ed Fong DBJ-2 antenna (it comes natively in BNC and comes with adapters) and I have a mast and collapsible Tenkara rod that I turn into a mini ham tower. You can also get an arborist's line and weight to toss over a tree limb and hang your antenna from it. For a more permanent/rigid antenna, the DBJ-1 is a good option. These carbiners are really handy for the roll up j pole since the little holes in it will slip over the tip of the rod. I also epoxied the last two ends of the rod together collapsed to make the end beefier for strength and since the carbiner doesn't stop until that second section. I also use some Velcro cable ties securing the coax to the mast to help support the weight of the wire though some will say that is not optimal but I have still been getting really good performance out of my setup. I did order an extra extension cable with my Ed Fong antenna to add a little bit of length plus I have a flat jumper cable to get through my window to keep the heat/cold in my house. Though I did have to add a BNC M to BNC M adapter on one end since I couldn't find a flat cable with M on one and and F on the other. For the coax find a suitable length of RG-58--preferentially with BNC M on one end and BNC F on the other. Phew... I know that's a lot but these are all different options to look at. Once this is together it is actually pretty easy to use in practice. If you have both Chinese radios like the Baofeng and Japanese radios like a Yaesu (their SMA connection genders are the opposite of each other) you now have a universal system that you can freely swap radios and antennas around. The BNC stuff is also very low loss and is handy for when you want to quickly change your antenna. This is also a good example of how far you can take things before we start talking about some of the different antenna types you can deploy...lol I do have one question, I know a lot of cheap third-party mics that often get packed with the Baofengs are simply terrible but how good is that actual Boafeng speaker mic? I have a couple of Baofeng radios and I do need a decent mic for them.
