Depending on what age your son is, what I found worked best was a cleary Gecko geo bike first, a 14” prevelo / forth bike second, and then my boy was ready to ride a 12” bmx. Even though the 14” sounds larger, in reality it’s smaller compared to 12” BMX. A safe set of pedals you may be interested in that would offer him some grip are the salt jr PC’s, or even a design like this would be better than the ones you posted. tiny pedals with minimal grip
