I think you’ve got good info on dropping off at conventions. But you sound kind of freaked out so I’ll try to give some tips beyond appraising that you may find useful and hopefully lower your stress level. Go get a set of new silver age bags and boards. Mylar are best but even poly bags are fine. Something like this: https://www.bcwsupplies.com/silver-comic-book-mylar-bag-4-mil https://www.bcwsupplies.com/silver-comic-book-backing-boards Those are the best you can get that are easy to acquire. You can also find these on Amazon if you prefer. Even if they’re in bags and boards now, they likely need to be changed. Old bags and boards can actually damage books. Bonus supplies that are useful: a short comic box can be cardboard, and some blue painters tape and maybe some dehumidifier gel bags: https://www.bcwsupplies.com/comic-book-short-storage-box https://www.amazon.com/Amazon-Basics-Painters-60-Yard-Rolls/dp/B0DQ934DG8/ https://www.amazon.com/Moisture-Absorbers-Desiccant-Electronics-Filament/dp/B0FYCWSP97/ You don’t really ever want scotch tape around your comics and when you send the books anywhere like CGC it’s useful to have around. And the box may seem silly but books stored improperly is one of the most common ways books are damaged, just too much pressure on one side or the book can cause things like spine roll or weird bends and warping. And the gel packs are important if you’re somewhere humid, throw those in the box or close enough to the books to make sure they don’t get too humid. 2. Pressing - books that are mid grade, silver age keys like you’re mentioning often benefit from a press which is a process that actually presses the books like a big t shirt press to remove bends, warping, etc. Need to find someone respectable to do this. I have a local guy but you can find one near you or you can use CCS which is a sister company to CGC. So you can actually choose it as an option when you send to grade - not that CCS is known to be the best pressing company but it may be the easiest for you. Or you can stop by some booths at the convention on the way to CGC and inquire. There’s usually at least one company that presses at a con. 3. CGC will just be grading they don’t appraise for value but they make it easier to appraise when they’re graded. Also easier to sell. So for the types of books you’re talking about I’d recommend a press and grade. 4. If you want to have the top end tool to evaluate pricing on a book it’s GPAnalysis, but it’s not free. They track graded sales across many sites. Otherwise you can look at eBay and look at sold listings. That’s the appraisal, you are the appraiser. 5. You can get collector’s insurance. You don’t need to do this but don’t assume your home owners covers the full replacement value without a rider. You can do this thru your homeowners with a rider or separate collectors insurance. Main thing with theft, just don’t really tell people besides this anonymously you have these things is my main advice. With damage, like people have told you transport them personally to a convention and drop them off. Keep them off the floor in case of flood. Things like that. Once you get them to a convention or to CGC I mean this in a kind way - your books are no longer that valuable compared to what’s also there. CGC will have millions of dollars of collectibles in their vault at any given time and much more individually expensive books. And they have the insurance to cover things on their end. The convention floor you’re not alone - many dealers will have those very books and more expensive ones even. You will be fine. 6. Take some deep breaths. You may have a book worth some money but we’re not talking millions (based on the books you’ve listed) some of those are going to be a few hundred, some may be a 5 figure book at the top end (ASM 1 is that for you from what you’ve shared) but even those 5 figure books it’s like getting a new Camry in the form of a comic book at most. It’s a lot but the news stories you may have seen of a 15 million dollar sale of an Action 1 aren’t what you’re dealing with. You’re going to be alright. Good Luck. And if you’d like to post pictures you may get some help here on a preliminary grade from those of us who know what to look for or the comicbookgrading sub. Just need high res pictures or scans of the books. More pictures the better.
