Pick up some 1/4” diagonal tape place it on the bed of your machine so that the center line matches exactly where your needle sews.Once in place it is an easy way to sew a diagonal seam.Lay the first fabric across your bed going horizontally (use the face plate for a straight horizontal guide.Lay the second strip (RST) vertically to the first strip using the markings on the face plate to keep it straight. It’s helpful to leave about a quarter inch of each fabric past the ends. With the needle down place the fabrics under the foot so that the needle is right where the fabrics intersect. Make sure the other intersection is right at the red line on the tape ( this ensures that the seam will be exactly 45 degrees) as long as you start and end the seam exactly where the fabrics cross your seam will be perfect. The pictured strips weren’t sewn so that the seam started and ended at the precise intersection. When sewing the diagonal make sure that the short ends are to the right of the needle. When attaching multiple strips you’ll take the (top fabric) give it ONE TWIST and place it as the (now) bottom fabric (Right side up and horizontal to you). That one twist is necessary to keep the seam allowance all on the same side.
